About Us

For as long as I can remember, my mom and I have wanted to start a business together. My mom is, without a doubt, the most talented person I know. If it's made of fabric...the woman can make it. This came in particularly handy for me while growing up because if I wanted a new outfit...she could make one! Here is the first dress she ever made me...

And when other friends and family members caught on to my mom's talent, they started hiring her. She made everything from prom dresses to bridesmaid dresses...and they were beautiful.

When I was younger, I never fully understood how difficult it was to sew. I just assumed that when the time came, my mom would be able to teach me to sew and I would be just as good as her.

But then the time came and well...I was NOT as good as her.

At all.

So I got my Masters in English and decided to become a college teacher instead :-)

For years, my mom has offered to teach to me to sew and knit and I have always resisted. But now that I am a mom, I see how incredibly special it is to make things with your hands and be able to pass those treasures on to your children...or grandchildren.

I will always cherish these hats, and all the things she has made them since. And trust me...she has made A LOT!

If I had a dollar for every time I brought home an item and heard my mom say, "You know, I can make that"...we would be millionaires. But over the last few years, my mom has been sending me subtle hints that she wants me to learn how to sew. Instead of saying "I can make that", she's been saying, "You know, WE can make that."

She has also been sending me some not-so-subtle hints, like giving me a big basket of knitting supplies for Christmas a few years ago or having my great aunt's sewing machine all fixed up so I can keep it at my house.

I heard you loud and clear mom! And now that I truly see the value in this art, I am learning to sew and knit....and my mom is an amazing teacher.

But while I learn to work the machine and needles like she does, I am busy with some of the crafts that I have an eye for. I LOVE making digital crafts like invitations, cards, cupcake toppers, favor tags, etc. and I love sharing them with others. I will have items for sale with our business, but I will ALWAYS have freebies for every holiday and my mom and I plan to do lots of DIY tutorials on this blog because above all else, we love sharing our creativity with others.

And that is really where our dream stems from. We love sharing our creativity and now that we are both finally at a place where we can dedicate the time necessary to run a business, we can't wait to get started as a mother/daughter team!!!

We hope to make The Polka Dot Posie a go-to shop for baby gifts, birthday gifts and party decor. We do personalization with many of our items (like hooded bath towels, onesies & t-shirts, toddler bags, etc.) and because we LOVE LOVE LOVE accessories (like jewelry, hair clips, clutches, totes, camera bags, camera straps, etc.) you can find a lot of those as well. We have also convinced our amazingly talented sister/daughter-in-law Diana to contribute some of her amazingly beautiful products too (like pot-grabbers and mug rugs...just to a name a few). Our inventory will always be growing and changing so we hope you stop by often!

Thanks so much for reading about us and for stopping by The Polka Dot Posie!! We hope you come back soon!
